I’m not entirely sure which version of “Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom” will be released since, at least, three different ones have been test-screened. Regardless, a trailer has been released.
The first ‘Aquaman’ grossed nearly $1.2 billion dollars, becoming the highest-earning entry in the DC Extended Universe. I’d be absolutely shocked if this one even makes half that amount.
Principal photography on James Wan’s “Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom” began in London on June 28, 2021, and wrapped in January 2022. There’s been a lot of behind-the-scenes drama with this one.
Last year, I had been told that Warner boss David Zaslav was none too happy with what he’d seen of ‘Aquaman 2,’ which is actually still in post-production, but not to the point of shelving it like he did with “Batgirl.”
For many months now I’ve been hearing about the terrible scores it’s been getting at test-screenings, and the fact that it keeps getting test-screened over and over and over … On last count, it seems as though there have been seven test-screenings of ‘Aquaman 2.’ This is really unheard of.
Given the troublesome state of ‘Aquaman 2,’ there were obviously, at some point, reshoots called by director Wan. We’re not entirely sure what they included, but they seem to have happened to insert Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck’s Batmans — although I’m hearing Keaton’s cameo has been nixed.
Yesterday, speaking to EW, Wan didn’t deny that post-production on his sequel included three rounds of additional photography, but he blamed it on the busy schedules of his A-list cast and not on the film itself.
“Aquaman: The Lost Kingdom” is currently set to be released on December 20.
