While interviewed, actor Jim Caviezel confirmed that “The Passion of the Christ: Resurrection” will start filming in January of 2024. The film will be in Aramaic and Latin. Mel Gibson is set to direct.
There is still an actors strike going on, but I am not entirely sure if Caviezel is a SAG-affiliated actor or if he even cares about adhering to strike rules. He’s basically been shunned by most of the Hollywood community so what does he have to lose exactly if he embarks on this film?
Caviezel said the ‘Passion’ sequel “will be the biggest film in the history of the world,” adding, “Mel [Gibson] took me through all of the scenes and I was on the floor crying […] it’ll be one of the best things you’ve ever seen. I can’t tell you [when it’s coming out]. If I told you I’d have to kill you.”
Recently, Gibson had confirmed that the film was “coming soon” and that the script would be more philosophical and poetic than a linear and straightforward story. In fact, he described it as an “acid trip” with Jesus going “into other realms.”
The sequel to Gibson’s 2004 mega-hit "The Passion of the Christ” has been ruminating in development for around ten years now. The original made $612 Million on a scant $30 million budget making it one of the most succesful independent films of all-time.
Gibson has been hard at work on the screenplay with “Braveheart” screenwriter Randall Wallace — there have already been six drafts. ‘Resurrection’ would focus on the twenty-four hours encompassing Jesus’ passion and the events that occurred three days between his crucifixion and resurrection.
Back in January, I had heard that Gibson was finally, very close, to shooting “The Passion of the Christ: Resurrection,” a mid-year shoot had been planned. Now we’re looking at January. The production date seems set in stone.
Gibson has been shooting “Flight Risk” starring Mark Whalberg in Las Vegas. The last movie Gibson directed was 2016’s “Hacksaw Ridge” which garnered six Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor.
