Pedro Almodóvar is releasing his 30-minute short, “Strange Way of Life,” in France. The film is set to hit theaters there on Wednesday. It’ll be released in the United States this fall in a double bill with his other English short “The Human Voice.”
Almodóvar has been giving interviews these last few days for French outlets, in a few of them he’s been implying that he’d love to shoot a film in French set in Paris.
I would very much like to make a film in Paris, and in French. I love your capital and, along with Rome, it is the city most visited by cinema. There are some of your actors and actresses that I would love to put in front of my camera...
In the interview he mentions trying to get the rights to Pierre Lemaitre’s novel “Sacrifices,” but that was seven years ago and somebody had snatched up the rights before he could:
I tried to get the rights but they were taken. A film still hasn’t been made from that novel. Maybe I can find a way to get it made. I’ve never directed an action movie so that would be interesting.
In the meantime Almodóvar also confirms that he will finally be shooting his first full-length English-language feature next March in NYC, with interior scenes shot in Spain the month after that. We still don’t know who are the two actresses he cast in the lead roles, and Almodóvar has been staying very mum about it.
