Here we go again.
Josh Safdie’s upcoming Netflix film, starring Adam Sandler, is now aiming for a September 25th production start. This, according to a recent Production Weekly listing.
The still-untitled film was originally supposed to start production in April, then it got pushed to June, then it was July and now it’s September. Godspeed.
On June 8, I was told that production on the film had been paused indefinitely due to the writers strike. We already know that Josh will be going solo here, his filmmaking brother Benny is out there doing other things, but he did co-write the screenplay.
The film is rumored to star Sandler, Ben Affleck, Steve Harvey, Megan Thee Stallion and Gael Garcia Bernal. Here’s the plot synopsis:
“Set in the world of high-end sports card collecting in the 1990s, a retired Baseball pitcher (Affleck) attempts a comeback as a sports memorabilia agent (Sandler) attempts to capitalize on his success. Megan Thee Stallion is said to play Affleck’s girlfriend.”
The Safdies are coming off the two biggest films of their moviemaking career, “Good Time” and “Uncut Gems.” Hopefully they’ll get to shoot this one and premiere it at Cannes next May.
