Today is “Oppenheimer” day. The film was screened for Paris press in the morning and will now have its world premiere at Le Grand Rex this evening.
Kenneth Turan, a longtime Los Angeles Times film critic, has a piece up about Christopher Nolan. Here are Turan’s brief thoughts on “Oppenheimer”:
Arguably Nolan’s most impressive work yet in the way it combines his acknowledged visual mastery with one of the deepest character dives in recent American cinema, “Oppenheimer” demanded to be explored on its own in as much depth as possible.
So far, this is the only official reaction we have gotten from a film critic, although Turan is technically “retired” from the field. There will be more to come today, I’m sure, but it’s a very good start for what will likely be a major movie event for cinephiles worldwide.
