Disney has revealed, via Forbes, that its Marvel streaming drama “Secret Invasion” went over budget, and was made for a whopping sum of $211.6 million.
This news comes to us after it was revealed, just last week, that Disney underreported, by around $100 million, the budget of this year’s “Doctor Strange into the Multiverse of Madness.” The film was actually made for a whopping $349 million, and that’s not even counting marketing costs.
“Secret Invasion”, which contains just six episodes, stars Samuel L. Jackson and Olivia Colman as rival agents trying to track down aliens who have infiltrated politics, or something like that.
There’s been barely any buzz for the series. The first episode of “Secret Invasion” premiered on Disney+ two weeks ago and viewership numbers were not good — another sign of a crumbling Marvel universe.
“Secret Invasion” drew 994K domestic views in its first 5 days of release. It was the second-lowest viewed MCU Disney+ show premiere. Only Ms. Marvel (775k) was worse. Now, watch Disney try to spin these numbers in the coming weeks.
This is another failed big-budget endeavor for Marvel/Disney, they’re really trying to steer the ship away from the incoming iceberg, but can they? I have my doubts. It doesn’t help that one of their important MCU actors (Jonathan Majors) is in currently legal trouble.
Disney has had a series of box-office disappointments these last twelve months, including “Lightyear,” “Thor: Love and Thunder,” “Strange World,” “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” “The Little Mermaid,” and “Elemental.” Who wants to bet this November’s “The Marvels” will also underperform?
