On 06.02.23 I wrote a piece titled Why Are Studio “Diversity Chiefs” Getting Canned?
This was in reference to Netflix’s Latondra Newton, Netflix’s Vernā Myers, Warner Bros’ Karen Horne and AMPAS’ Jeanell English getting canned in the same week. All were known as “diversity chiefs” aka DEI execs.
Yesterday, yet another one got canned, this time it was the BBC’s Joanna Abeyie who “stepped down” from her role after less than two years as the “head of creative diversity.”
Diversity heads are dropping like flies across multiple media organisations, what is going on? Is the tide changing? Have organizations suddenly realized that relying on internet hive-mind is a terrible mistake?
