I had previously reported on the catastrophic production of “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” and now THR has joined in on this unusual story, which actually sounds very similar to “The Flash” debacle.
For many months now I’ve been hearing about the terrible test scores ’Aquaman 2’ has been getting, and the fact that it keeps getting test-screened over and over and over … on last count, it seems as though there have been seven test-screenings of ‘Aquaman 2.’ This is really unheard of.
I don’t think James Gunn and David Zaslav can, again, come out and tell us ‘Aquaman 2’ is one of the greatest superhero movies ever made, much like they did with “The Flash.” Their credibility has been shot. Anyways, ‘Aquaman 2’ actually looks like a whole different beast, something much, much worse.
The THR report claims that ‘Aquaman 2’ has gone through three rounds of reshoots, two cut Batmans and a bunch of failed test screenings. However, THR swears that the film is now said to be on a positive track after the last round of reshoots. Sure, Jan.
The latest batch of reshoots reportedly took place in New Zealand last month and involved main stars Jason Momoa and Patrick Wilson. Also, Ben Affleck’s scene, as Batman, which was meant to replace Michael Keaton’s scene, as Batman, has been cut.
Here’s what Big Screen Leaks had to say:
I’m genuinely worried about this movie. I spoke to someone who saw the most recent version and it was easily their least favourite DCU film. I’ve also heard Wan is miserable working on this film. Really, REALLY hoping they turn this one around.
Principal photography on the film began in London on June 28, 2021, and wrapped in January 2022. After multiple release date changes, which included December 16, 2022, and March 17, 2023, Warner Bros finally settled on a December 25, 2023 launch for this latest DCEU instalment.
Last year, I had been told that Warner boss David Zaslav wasn’t too happy with what he’d seen of ‘Aquaman 2,’ which is actually still in post-production, but not to the point of shelving it like he did with “Batgirl.” They actually want to release the damn thing.
