Here’s our first clip of Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” which runs for 43 seconds. It was posted last night via the DiscussingFilm Twitter handle and has already nabbed 151k likes.
The amount of buzzy anticipation this film has been getting, due to a steroid-infused marketing campaign, says a lot about current American culture. I know it’s very unlikely, but what if the reviews turn out to be mediocre for “Barbie”? What’ll happen then?
There’s also a slight backlash from Gerwig fans going on due to yesterday’s news that she will be helming two ‘Chronicles of Narnia’ films for Netflix. Gerwig also mentioned how she doesn’t want to be the biggest female director, but, rather, a big studio filmmaker. What does that even mean?
This all fits well with her most recent comments: that she would love to direct a Marvel movie. She’s very much open to the idea. It seems as though Gerwig has learned to stop worrying and love the big fat paychecks Hollywood has to offer her.
