I had reported last December that Darren Aronofsky was already in pre-production on his next movie, which was set to shoot this past March. It was said to be called “Postcards from Earth”
The synopsis circling around was very vague: “An immersive and innovative exploration of planet Earth through the eyes of two human beings.” Sounds ambitious.
Now, in an interview with THR, Aronofsky is confirming the project has already been shot in every continent of the world and at the MSG Sphere, the uniquely constructed sphere-shaped venue that opens this fall in Las Vegas
Aronofsky describes the film as a “sci-fi journey deep into our future as our descendants reflect on our shared home.”
There are both narrative and documentary elements to the film, he adds, “we designed it to be as effective as possible to communicate the message we wanted to deliver in an emotional way, so it’s less about genre than about the audience experience.”
Oscar-nominated cinematographer Matthew Libatique, a longtime collaborator with Aronofsky, served as cinematographer. Tribeca Productions is handling the film rights.
Aronofsky’s “The Whale” was released last year to mixed reviews, but did win Brendan Fraser the Best Actor Oscar. Before that, Aronofsky directed critically acclaimed fare such as “The Wrestler,” “Black Swan” and “Requiem For A Dream.”
