Clint Eastwood celebrated his 93rd birthday on May 31st in Carmel, California, via Instagram.
His family gave him a cake, of course, and it also turned out to be one of Clint’s first appearances, video or public, in over two years.
He hasn’t really been seen much since the release of 2021’s “Cry Macho”. This has led to speculation about his health. Hey, he’s healthy enough to make a new movie.
That’s right, Clint is supposed to direct a film called “Juror #2.” Will he do it? It starts shooting this month, with actors Toni Collette, Nicholas Hoult, Kiefer Sutherland and Zoey Deutch. It’s probably his last film — he looks very frail in the birthday video posted, I don’t even know if he’s still able to walk.
Clint just needs to sit in the directors chair and point. That’s all. John Huston did it with an oxygen tank on his final film, 1987’s “The Dead.” So did Robert Altman with 2006’s “Prairie Home Companion.” In fact, to receive insurance for the shoot, Altman had to hire Paul Thomas Anderson as a "backup" director to observe filming at all times and be prepared to take over for Altman in case of his incapacity.
THR’s sources reported last month that Eastwood “wanted to find one last project in order to be able to ride off into the sunset with his head held high.” He found the script for “Juror #2” and said this is “the one”.
It’s not like Eastwood stopped making great movies either. “Cry Macho” was an anomaly — not counting that one, his last two films were “The Mule” and “Richard Jewell” (both great).
Here’s to Clint Eastwood on his 93rd birthday, a legend. Long may he live!
