That was fast (X). 2 Fast 2 Digital? Okay, I’ll stop.
Louis Leterrier’s “Fast X” has only been in theaters for three weeks, but it’s now available to view on digital. I’m no fan of this series, but there’s something seriously wrong with this.
What Universal, and other studios, are doing is watering down the theatrical experience. Why buy a ticket to these movies when you can just watch it at home in a few weeks.
Then again, you’ll have to pay around $25 to screen it digitally which is more than your average movie ticket.
“Fast X” released on May 19, 2023. So it's a 21 day window of theater to streaming. That is very fast for a release to streaming. “Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” had a longer theater-only window than that.
“Fast X” has grossed $618 Million worldwide so far, but it has a massive $340 Million budget. Considering they’ve already officially announced two more films in this franchise, I would suspect they’ll keep the budget at a lower range next time around.
The reviews have also not been good for these last three movies. It’s been spinning its wheels, so to speak. The franchise was on an upswing from 4 to 7, even critics hopped onboard those movies, especially for the surprisingly decent “Fast Five,” but Vin and company have clearly lost the plot again.
“Fast X: Part Two” will be released on April 4, 2025.
