It’s not much of a contest: Arnold Schwarzenegger was the best action movie star of the ‘80s and ‘90s.
The filmography speaks for itself: “Terminator,” Terminator 2,” “Predator,” “Total Recall,” “Commando,” True Lies” “Conan the Barbarian,” and more. However, there was always a big rivalry between Arnie and fellow alpha Sylvester Stallone.
Stallone has finally admitted that Schwarzenegger was the “superior” one and that means a lot since Stallone has always invested himself head-on in this battle of the action movie stars:
“Dialogue was not necessary. I saw that there was an opportunity, because no one else was doing this except some other guy from Austria, who doesn’t need to say much… He was superior. He just had all the answers. He had the body. He had the strength. That was his character.”
This quote comes from the recently released Netflix documentary “Arnold.” It’s a watchable affair that has Schwarzenegger diving deep into his public and private life. He also currently stars in the hit Netflix show “FUBAR.”
Schwarzenegger also chose better directors to work with, the likes of James Cameron, Paul Verhoeven, John McTiernan cast him in lead roles.
Stallone and Schwarzenegger ended up teaming together, for the first time, as co-leads in 2013’s “Escape Plan.” This then led to Arnie having a small role in Stallone’s three ‘Expendable’ movies.
Meanwhile, Stallone is 76, still looking juiced up on a combination of Human Growth Hormone and steroids, is continuing to make action movies, he has ‘The Expendables 4’ being released on September 23rd. There’s also a “Cliffhanger” sequel that was greenlit last month.
