We might have a potentially noteworthy title on our hands, one that not many pundits were talking about.
According to screenwriter/author Anthony Penrose’s friend, “Lee,” starring Kate Winslet, will have its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival in September. The film is still looking to be acquired stateside, but that will be short lived.
Oscar-nominated Cinematographer, Ellen Kuras, directs Kate Winslet, who stars as Vogue cover model turned war correspondent, Lee Miller. Liz Hannah (“The Post”) adapted the project from Penrose’s book, “The Lives of Lee Miller.”
Winslet has been attached to this project since 2015. Kuras, whose DP work includes “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” will be helming her narrative-feature debut. Here’s the synopsis:
The film follows Lee Miller as she travels to the frontlines of World War II as a photojournalist and embarks on a mission to expose the hidden truths of the Third Reich. But in the aftermath of betrayal, she comes to a reckoning about the truths of her own past.
Starring alongside Winslet is an incredible batch of actors — Marion Cotillard, Andrea Riseborough, Alexander Skarsgard, Josh O'Connor and Noemie Merlant.
It gets better. Only amping up our expectations further is the fact that Polanski DP Pawel Edelman will be lensing the film. The great Alexander Desplat is also composing the score.
Filming on “Lee” began in late September 2022 and wrapped in early December.
