UPDATED: I’ve emailed Deadline to get some clarification on this. I thought maybe it was a typo, but no, Pete Hammond replied to my email saying, “That is what Denis says is the plan.”
So, we’re maybe getting a third ‘Dune.’ That is either very good or very bad news, depending on who you speak to. I was mezzo mezzo on the first one, but will wait and see how the second film pans out.
Of course, it’ll all depend on how well “Dune: Part Two” does. The first one, released during the pandemic, did decently well and has amassed a large-enough fanbase.
Turning “Dune” into a film has been a lifelong dream for Villeneuve, ever since his childhood in rural Montreal. It makes sense that he would want to keep on making these films.
Will he take a break before embarking on the third film? He still wants to make “Cleopatra” and there keep being rumors about his helming a Bond movie.
EARLIER: A peculiar detail can be found inside Deadline’s “Dune: Part Two” trailer recap:
Warner Bros on Thursday released a new trailer for Dune: Part Two, Denis Villeneuve’s second pic in a planned three-film saga based on Frank Herbert’s classic sci-fi novel.
Wait, what?! Is this a typo? Are we seriously getting a third “Dune”?
They later refer to “Dune: Part Two” as the "middle film." This has led to some fans speculating that the third film will have Villeneuve adapting Herbert’s “Messiah.”
