UPDATE: “Spider Man: Across the Spiderverse” delivered beyond expectations this weekend, no doubt buoyed by the incredible reviews it has garnered.
It was supposed to open in the 3-day $80 million range, but prognostics are now saying it’ll be more like $120 million. That’s more than Fast X’s COMBINED box-office grosses.
I really liked ‘Across the Spider-Verse’. I’m impressed by how much mass audiences have warmed up to this visually experimental film. I wrote, “Prepare to be impressed by this visually groundbreaking work. You’ve never seen anything like it before.”
EARLIER: “Spider Man: Across the Spiderverse” delivered a stunning $16 million in Thursday preview grosses. It’s going to exceed projected expectations. No doubt helped by the glowing reviews.
This is the second highest Thursday gross ever for an animated film. ‘Across the Spider-Verse’ is turning into a phenomenon. Movie fans from all age ranges, even 40+ adults will be flocking to see it.
The first ‘Spiderverse’ movie made $3.5 million in previews. This sequel has made five times that number. It’s getting very close to nabbing that coveted $100 million opening. It’s original projections were at around $80 million.
About those glowing reviews. An 86 on Metacritic and 96% on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s the current frontrunner to win the Best Animated Feature Oscar, that is until the Miyazaki screens …
