I’ve only seen this casting call now.
Ethan Coen’s “Drive-Away Dolls” will be released in September, it’s said to be a road movie akin to “Raising Arizona” with a tinge of Russ Meyer added in for good measure. I’m in.
Regardless, a casting call was going around during pre-production asking for nude body doubles of its two leads, Geraldine Viswanathan and Margaret Qualley.
As you can see below, we can expect some graphic sex scenes in this movie. I’m not sure what Coen has concocted here but consider me intrigued.
“Drive-Away Dolls” has a September 22nd release date via Focus Features, so we can probably expect a Venice Film Festival bow for this one.
Here’s the synopsis:
This comedy caper follows Jamie, an uninhibited free spirit bemoaning yet another breakup with a girlfriend, and her demure friend Marian who desperately needs to loosen up. In search of a fresh start, the two embark on an impromptu road trip to Tallahassee, but things quickly go awry when they cross paths with a group of inept criminals along the way.
The film was written by Ethan and his wife Tricia Cooke. Cooke was actually the editor for three Coens films (O Brother Where Art Thou, The Man Who Wasn’t There and The Big Lebowski).
Oscar Nominated Cinematographer Ari Wegner (The Power of the Dog) is lensing Coen's solo debut. The cast assembled for Coen’s film is great: Margaret Qualley, Geraldine Viswanathan, Beanie Feldstein, Pedro Pascal, Colman Domingo, Bill Camp and Matt Damon.
Coen and Cooke initially wrote the screenplay in the mid-2000s, which is said to be a “Russ Meyer-inspired romp” that was initially supposed to be directed by Allison Anders (“Gas Food Lodging”).
