UPDATE: Loach is out of the running for any prize. Ceylan is rumoured to have won a big one (not the Palme d’Or). Sandra Hüller was just spotted at Nice airport.
EARLIER: The Palme d’Or will be awarded later today along with acting and directing prizes. The ceremony starts at 2:30pm ET
Early intel is suggesting the Palme seems to be between Kore-Eda’s “Monster”, Kaurismäki’s “Fallen Leaves,” Glazer’s “Zone of Interest” Tran’s “Pot A Feu” or Triet’s “Anatomy of a Fall”.
For additional prizes Ceylan’s “About Dry Grasses,” Wenders’ “Perfect Days,” and, yikes, Loach’s “The Old Oak” are in the mix. The latter is probably due to the Brie Larson effect of the jury.
What a shame that Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon” wasn’t in competition. It would have easily contended for the Palme.
