Remember SS Rajamouli? The filmmaker, whose “RRR” was praised by critics, audiences and even Steven Spielberg, has some unfinished business.
He’s now tentatively working on his dream project in what will probably be the biggest Indian film ever made. It’s called “Mahabharata” and Rajamouli refuses to turn it into his usual 3-hour over-the-top epic.
No siree, in the spirit of the rambunctiously outlandish “RRR,” Rajamouli is going to tackle this movie as a 20+ hour mega event to end all mega events. With Rajamouli, it’s go big or go home.
At a recent event, Rajamouli elaborated on his vision for conquering this long-gestating dream project of his:
If I get to the point of making Mahabharat, it would take me a year just to read the versions of Mahabharatthat available in the country. At present, I can only assume that it would be a 10-part film.
He added, “Every film I make, I feel that I’m learning something to ultimately make “Mahabharata.” So that’s my dream and every step is towards that.”
Mahabharata is one of the two major Sanskrit epics of ancient India. It narrates the struggle between two groups of cousins at War and the fates of princes and their successors.
Before he tackles that project, Rajamouli will be shooting a new movie this fall said to be, in his words,” a sort of “Indian Jones” jungle adventure.
