Producer Niels Juul has basically confirmed, via Instagram, that Michael Mann’s “Ferrari” is going to Venice:
bientot e arrivederci a Venice for “Ferrari”
I don’t think we’ll be getting a more official confirmation than this one, at least not until the Venice lineup is revealed in July.
The film is being shopped around as we speak, it still has no US distribution, and a few images were released in February, no doubt to build up some buzz on this film. It cost around $90 million to produce. It’s a risk-taking endeavour, but surely a studio must be interested?
“Ferrari” is said to be epic in scope, recounting a single year (1957) in the life of Enzo Ferrari (Adam Driver) and his wife Laura (Penelope Cruz). Mann’s film comes with very high expectations, not to mention it’s been a passion project percolating for a few decades now.
It’s also set to be the Mann’s first film since 2015’s “Blackhat,” which I didn’t like at all, maybe his worst film, but I hear the director’s cut is a vast improvement. Can any of our readers confirm that?
The DP of “Ferrari” is none other than David Fincher regular Erik Messerschmidt.
Mann, who is 80, will probably shoot a sequel to his 1995 classic “Heat” next year. He’s a world class filmmaker with such classics as, the aforementioned, “Heat,” “Collateral,” “The Insider” and “Thief.”
