James Gunn will be shooting “Superman: Legacy” next year in Georgia. Casting is currently underway for various roles in this upcoming film.
THR has the short list of names up for the roles of Clark Kent, Lois Lane and Lex Luthor.
David Corenswet, who played the projectionist in “Pearl”, is said to be among the top contenders to play Superman. He’s said to have advanced to the screen-test stage that will likely take place in early June. Two other contenders may also be in the mix but their identities remain unknown.
Contenders for Lois Lane include Emma Mackey (Sex Education), Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Phoebe Dynevor (Bridgestone) and Samara Weaving (Scream VI).
However, the role of villain Lex Luthor seems to be Nicholas Hoult’s to lose. The report makes mention that he will most likely play the bald-headed evil genius.
Corenswet and Weaving, please. That’d be a dream duo. I also think Lex Luthor demands a little more of a commanding presence — Hoult is a little too soft to play a villain, but I’m ready to be proven wrong.
DC Studios co-chief Gunn turned in a draft of “Superman: Legacy” two weeks ago, just days before the writers’ strike came into effect. The film is not expected to be affected by the strike, according to The Wrap.
Gunn wrote the script and will direct the film which is said to feature a younger version of Superman. Pre-production kicked off last month, with costumes and production design at the forefront.
“Superman: Legacy” will be released on July 11, 2025. It will be the first film released as part of Gunn’s newly established DCEU.
