Obviously, this article should come with a major SPOILERS warning. There’s no question about it. So, if you’re interested in watching “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” then stop reading right now …
Ok, now that most of the Indy fans have gone away, I can tell you that James Mangold’s film HEAVILY hints at its climax that Phoebe Waller-Bridge will be donning the fedora and whip for the next film.
In November I had written that numerous endings had been tested for Disney and execs, one of which ended up being the one Mangold used:
One of the endings tested had Phoebe-Waller Bridge replacing Harrison Ford at the end of the movie. Presumably, this would set up the franchise for further sequels with Ford not returning. Another unpopular conclusion had Ford’s Indiana Jones dying.
Waller-Bridge plays a feisty-grifter by the name of Helena Shaw, she is said to be the daughter of Toby Jones‘ Basil Shaw.
If Disney has indeed decided to go this creative direction with Indy then they will be committing franchise suicide. I’m sorry, there’s no other way to put it.
Also, imagine if ‘Dial of Destiny’ makes less money than projected, potentially hammered down by the mixed reviews. Just imagine if this $300 million movie becomes a box-office disappointment and Disney still goes ahead with successor Waller-Bridge?
‘Indy 5’ started filming in the UK back in June of 2021. It was supposed to be released in 2022 but got delayed to June 2023.
