Despite his “Firebrand” garnering mixed reviews at Cannes, it sits at a rough 44% on Rotten Tomatoes, it appears that filmmaker Karim Aïnouz has already lined up his next film, “Rosebushpruning.”
The Match Factory and MUBI are teaming up with Aïnouz on the film and it will be a remake of Marco Bellocchio’s 1950s Italian classic, “Fists in the Pocket.”
‘Fists’ was a very dark movie that was banned in Italy, it told the story of Augusto, the oldest son in a dysfunctional Italian family. Angry and unstable, Augusto devises a plan to murder his mother and siblings.
The remake will be written by Efthimis Filippou (“The Lobster,” “Dogtooth,” and “The Killing of a Sacred Deer.” Oh, and the cast .. Kristen Stewart, Josh O’Connor, and Elle Fanning.
