David Lowery’s upcoming “Peter Pan & Wendy” was probably a very nice paycheck for him, but now he’s getting into more serious stuff.
He’s signed on for “Mother Mary” with A24 producing. Anne Hathaway and Michaela Coel are set to star in the film which is being described as a musical.
The film will be an epic pop melodrama following a fictional musician (Hathaway) and her relationship with an iconic fashion designer (Coel).
A poster on AW mentioned that the film is already in pre-production in his German town and that a shoot is planned to begin at the end of the month and last until the end of July.
Apparently, starting end of this month. They're still looking for about 1000 extras of all ages for different time slots from then to end of July.
It seems like Lowery is very savvy at juggling his arthouse passion projects (“A Ghost Story” “The Green Knight”) with high-priced Disney movies (“Pete’s Dragon,” “Pan and Wendy”), probably the latter to bankroll his next indie movie.
No worries here though, A24 are fully onboard after Lowery delivered a few critical hits for them. Hey, he’s got to make a living somehow. If ‘Pan’ allows Lowery to keep working and making movies like “A Ghost Story”, then I'm all for it.
Lowery is the filmmaker behind the well-reviewed “A Ghost Story,” “Ain’t Them Bodies A Saint,” “The Old Man and The Gun,” and “The Green Knight.”
For now, he has the aforementioned “Peter Pan & Wendy” which skipped theaters and is currently on Disney Plus.
