The question mark in the above title obviously comes with a sense of hesitation.
The purported scooper who blew up Twitter this morning was MyTimeToShine. They sometimes get it right, and other times don’t. Their claim that Adam Driver has accepted Disney’s offer to play Reed Richards in ‘Fantastic Four’ does go with what we’ve been hearing these last few weeks.
Marvel’s ‘Fantastic Four’ is supposed to start shooting next January. There’s been an inordinate amount of rumors as to who has been cast in the film. Scoopers, insiders, whatever you like to call them, are convinced that Driver, Margot Robbie, Jodie Comer and Antonio Banderas will be a part of this movie.
I find it odd that Driver would accept to be part of a superhero movie. This is the same guy who only works with A-list filmmakers and only does arthouse stuff (except for this year’s strange “65”).
Driver has worked with Martin Scorsese, Joel Coen, Noah Baumbach, Jim Jarmusch, Clint Eastwood, Spike Lee, Steven Spielberg, Steven Soderbergh, Michael Mann, Leos Carax, Francis Ford Coppola Ridley Scott and Terry Gilliam.
Jesus. He sure picks ‘em right. How did this happen? Well, for starters, Driver is no slouch to acting, he graduated from Julliard, one of the most prestigious acting schools in the world. A certain Martin Scorsese also happened to call him “the greatest actor of his generation.” That’s debatable.
I like Driver a lot, I think he’s a strong actor, but it’s surprising to think he would have any interest in playing Reed Richards. We’ll find out soon enough how truthful these rumors are.
