How will summer movie season audiences, who tend to look for escapism, react to Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer”? That’s the big question.
There are no superheroes here, neither is it an IP-driven film, and it seems to be more about intense dialogue than action sequences. Bless Nolan for taking this risk.
If anything, it’ll be the antidote to Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie,” both films are getting released on the same day. Nolan’s film is 3 hours, Gerwig’s is said to be around 100 minutes.
Nolan is coming off the biggest disappointment of his career, “Tenet,” and he also has Denis Villeneuve knocking on his door, trying to capture his crown as the mainstream auteur du jour. All I know is that there is no other big studio film I’m looking forward to more this summer than “Oppenheimer.”
