As she’s continuing to write her “Dracula” movie, Chloe Zhao, an Oscar-winning director for “Nomadland,” has set up her next movie with Amblin studios.
Replacing original director Sam Mendes, Zhao will adapt Maggie O’Farrell Novel ‘Hamnet.’ This is primo old-school Oscar bait that reminds me, in some fashion, to “Shakespeare In Love.”
“Hamnet” imagines the story of Agnes, the wife of William Shakespeare, as she grapples with the loss of her only son. Set against the backdrop of Shakespeare's most famous play, Hamlet, and during the Black Plague in 1580s England, the film will is said to also tackle William and Agnes’ relationship.
The project is still currently in development and doesn't have any release date nor is there any production scheduled. Mendes is still involved and will produce.
“Eternals,” an unmitigated MCU disaster, did not work out for 39-year-old Zhao. She’s now trying to find her artistic footing again. Zhao had earlier confirmed that she’s in the middle of writing the screenplay for her upcoming “Dracula” movie.
Zhao’s ’Dracula’ is described as an original, futuristic, sci-fi Western with themes of being on society’s fringes. “Dracula” is being spearheaded by Monster-verse studio Universal.
Her past efforts include “The Rider” and “Songs My Brother Taught Me.”
