As I exclusively reported on March 23, Aziz Ansari is set to direct a new film, after failing to revive “Being Mortal,” which will mostly likely never be completed.
I mentioned that Ansari would be shooting “Good Fortune” in May. The film is being described as a “high concept comedy about the gig economy in Los Angeles.”
The film was officially announced today with a cast that includes Keanu Reeves and Seth Rogen. Lionsgate has picked up the film for distribution. It’s all coming together very nicely for Ansari.
Production on Ansari’s “Being Mortal” began in the Spring of 2021. Then three weeks later, the shoot was derailed when Searchlight received a complaint from an actress about “inappropriate behavior” on the part of Bill Murray.
Production on the film, which was halfway completed, shut down and never started back again.
There was word that Ansari’s agents were shopping “Being Mortal” around at the Cannes market, but to no avail. It turned out that nobody wanted to touch this movie.
Now “Being Mortal” will never be finished and just become a part of Hollywood lore. Hopefully, Ansari can bring back the crew and other production staff from that film into this next project.
