Watch out for this one. it’s being released this Friday in theaters.
Last month, a trailer was released by NEON for Daniel Goldhaber’s “How to Blow Up A Pipeline.” Its one of the best heist movies in a very long time.
Of all the sales at this past year’s TIFF, the one that caused the most heated bidding war was Goldhaber’s ‘Pipeline’’. Neon finally picked up the North American rights to Goldhaber’s taut, tense and terrific thriller.
I was a major fan Goldhaber’s “Cam,” and he delivered again with this eco-thriller which follows a crew of young environmental activists who execute a daring mission to sabotage an oil pipeline.
It's a very well-edited and tension-filled affair. I’ve also been reading some reviews that actually describe the main protagonists as some kind of heroes. They’re not. They might care for the environment, but they’re still sabotageurs, terrorists, and what they do is highly illegal.
Goldhaber’s source material might be based on Andreas Malm’s radical 2021 nonfiction book of the same name, but the film isn’t a call to action — it’s more interested in the intricacies of the heist, the way it all goes down, with its excellent usage of flashback and flash-forward editing.
The film is rather a tapestry of sorts, an inventive narrative about the modern climate justice movement, but more importantly, it’s a nail-biting minimalist action movie, smartly shot on 16mm by DP Tehillah de Castro.
This will put Goldhaber on the map as one of the most exciting new directorial voices in American film. If you haven’t seen “Cam,” it’s well worth a look. It’s right now playing on Netflix.
