Things are truly heating up when it comes to Michael Mann’s ‘Heat’ sequel.
You can look through the Production Weekly listing, bottom of the page, which has Adam Driver and Al Pacino firmly attached to Michael Mann’s “Heat 2.”
It was just four days ago that I mentioned Driver was being eyed for the role of a younger Vincent Hanna, Pacino’s character in the original “Heat.” Nothing conclusive though, I was just passing on a rumor I had heard
The film will be utilizing flashbacks to tell its story, which is why Pacino is also attached to star since he’ll be reprising his role as Vincent.
The PW listing also mentions Austin Butler for a potential role, but we all know, if you’ve been reading this site, that Mann wants Butler for the younger Val Kilmer role. The resemblance between the two is uncanny.
Driver just wrapped Coppola’s “Megalopolis” and did mention last week that he was going to take a small acting break.
Mann hasn’t directed a movie since 2015’s ill-received “Blackhat,” but the 80-year-old filmmaker has been very busy of late. He was the executive producer and even directed an episode of “Tokyo Vice” for HBO last year, which was well-received and got a second season greenlit.
There is no production date scheduled for “Heat 2,” for now. I would guess things won’t get rolling until after Mann premieres “Ferrari” at Venice and screens it at other festivals in the fall. Then we’ll start hearing more about this one.
