After Park Chan-wook, Bong Joon-ho, and Kim Ji-woon, here’s another South Korean filmmaker headed to Hollywood.
According to Deadline, Na Hong-Jin is going to direct a new film, “Hope,” which will star Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander. A production date hasn’t been set up yet, but pre-production seems to be rolling very quickly.
Here’s the synopsis:
“Hope” follows the story of the residents of a small harbor town who make a startling discovery on the outskirts of their land. That’s when things go south as the residents then have to fight for their survival against something they’ve never encountered before.
Na Hong-Jin‘s last film was 2016’s remarkable murder-mystery “The Wailing”. I didn’t expect much going into that screening and it honestly blew me away how he pulled off the various different genres of the film.
I had no idea it has been close to seven years since “The Wailing” premiered at Cannes. What has he been up to since then? Na is said to have written “many” scripts during the COVID-19 pandemic. He also admitted that “whenever I finish a film, I don’t want to go anywhere near another one.”
Beautiful people Vikander and Fassbender will be reuniting on “Hope” for the first time since their nauseating 2016 film, “The Light Between Oceans.” They’re actually married in real life.
