We don’t know much about Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon,” except that it’s, maybe, 3 hours and 20 minutes and could premiere at Cannes in May.
As far as any reactions go, NYT film critic Glenn Kenny had mentioned a few weeks ago that he’d spoken to a few people who thought it was incredible. Other than that, we’re all in the dark.
The film stars Leonardo Dicaprio, who has seen the film, according Costume Designer Jacqueline West:
“I was talking to Leo about it. We had lunch before I came here. He said, ‘Jackie, I think we worked on a masterpiece’. I thought for Leo to say that, was something. He doesn’t say that lightly. He has been in the business since he was a little boy.”
You have to wonder why it’s taken so long for “Killers of the Flower Moon” to be ready. Last month, i had heard back from someone saying that Scorsese was still editing the film. Even by Scorsese/Schoonmaker standards, the post-production process has been very long.
‘Killers’ was all set to have a teaser released last August, with a late fall release to boot, and then came Scorsese’s sudden call for more reshoots in NYC, mostly having to do with the film’s coda.
Initial production on the $200 million budgeted ‘Killers’ wrapped in October of 2021. Then the reshoots occurred in mid-2022, both in New York City and Oklahoma.
The film stars DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Jesse Plemons, Lily Gladstone and Brendan Fraser. No release date has been planned yet, but a fall launch seems inevitable.
