There’s no doubt that people are back at the cinemas. But mostly for sequels, prequels, reboots and superhero stuff.
The problem, it seems, stems more from Americans’ unwillingness to buy a ticket to original filmmaking. I’ve already tackled this topic numerous times, but moviegoing has become a young person’s game, more than ever before.
Regardless, a new box-office hit-in-the-making is brewing this weekend and that’s “Scream VI,” which, by the looks of it, might double its predecessor’s gross.
I scream, you scream, we all scream for …
The sixth ‘Scream’ made $6M in Thursday previews, almost double that of last year’s “Scream.” It is expected to open with $45-50M at the domestic box office.
That’s an even bigger Thursday tally than “Creed III,” which ended up having a $58 million opening weekend. It’s a total surprise. As Tom Brueggman reported, “industry expectations placed “Scream VI” last among the four big sequels being released this month.”
If these numbers stick then it would make it the biggest opening ever of the franchise.
