The “Ocean’s Eleven” prequel is set to begin filming early next year with Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling starring in the lead roles. Yes, the same lead actors as Gerwig’s “Barbie.”
This one will be directed by Jay Roach (“Meet the Parents”), The screenplay was penned by Carrie Solomon. No further cast details were revealed, but Robbie and Gosling — Ken and Barbie — will likely be a major box-office draw after their “Barbie” success.
Now, Showbiz411’s Roger Friedman is reporting that the film will be called “Oceans.” Gosling and Robbie will actually be playing the parents of Danny Ocean, the character played by George Clooney in Ocean’s 11, 12, and 13.
In the film, the Oceans will teach son Danny and daughter Debbie (originally played by Sandra Bullock) how to steal from the rich. The film is being described as a “caper”set during the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix.
It is also said to be an “epic love story/ adventure disguised as a heist” and is inspired by Hitchcock’s “To Catch A Thief” and “Notorious.”
Puck’s Matt Belloni had originally reported that the film would incorporate elements of the original Soderbergh-directed films and and that it would have the biggest budget of the franchise. Warner Bros clearly has a lot of confidence in this one being a big hit.
The most commercially successful, and the best, of the ‘Ocean’s’ films was always the first one. The first sequel, 2004’s “Ocean's Twelve”, was a hot meta mess, with the final film, 2007’s “Ocean's Thirteen,” going back to the commercial formula of the original.
Remember the all-female spin-off titled “Ocean's 8”? You’re not alone, not many seem to remember that one. It was enough of a dud that Warner decided to axe that cast and start over.
