I’ll put this one under “rumor” because anything coming from Daniel Richtman should be taken with a major grain of salt.
Richtman claims that a new ‘Die Hard’ movie is in development at 20th Century, this one focusing on a young John McClane. I bet that, if the rumor is true, they would base the story on the graphic novel “Die Hard: Year One,” which followed McClane as a New York cop in the ‘70s.
A ‘Year One’ prequel had originally been greenlit in 2018, with Len Wiseman set to direct, but Disney bought 20th Century Fox and scrapped the project. I have no interest in this one unless John McTiernan is coming back to direct, which I highly doubt.
This is, however, a good opportunity to mention how utterly underrated 2006’s “Live Free or Die Hard” was. In my books, it’s the best ‘Die Hard’ movie since the original (which, by the way, is most definitely a Christmas movie).
