The DCEU ends, not with a bang but with a whimper. There will be no red carpet premiere for “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom”, no afterparty, just a small pre-reception and "fan screening” for James Wan’s film.
Wan will now happily return to the horror genre after being stuck in DCEU drama for the last three years. He must be ecstatic. Even star Jason Momoa is confirming this is the end, and he won’t be reprising his role as Aquaman.
“Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” is being released four days from now. Expect reviews to not be kind for Wan’s film. There will surely be books written, classes taught, on the total and utter failure of the DCEU. We also need some kind of behind-the-scenes documentary to come out.
So, this is how the DCEU dies. With a $200M film that’s been plagued by reshoots, succumbed to endless negative press, barely marketed, and … stars Amber Heard. RIP.
