Would you believe it if I told you that 77-year-old Sylvester Stallone is set to return for a sequel to his 1993 action thriller “Cliffhanger”?
That’s exactly what’s happening, original director Ric Roman Waugh has also been replaced by Jean-François Richet (Mesrine) and a script by Mark Bianculli (Hunters) is being used to shoot the film. At least it sounds more interesting than another ‘Expandables’ movie.
Stallone is actually going to turn 78 by the time production begins, in Bavaria, in the summer of 2024. The project is being funded with Germany money.
Stallone will reprise his character of Ranger Gabriel “Gabe” Walker, from the original film, which was directed by Renny Harlin. It was pure escapism, nothing more and nothing less. We also have some plot details coming in, via Screen:
“Gabe is now living in the Dolomites where he runs an exclusive mountain lodge. When he and a high-profile client are taken hostage during an adventurous weekend trip, his daughter has to use all her climbing skills to outwit the kidnappers, triggering a battle of life and death.”
I will say this much, there aren’t a lot of 78 year old rock climbers. A juiced up Stallone might be the sole exception. He’ll need to up his Human Growth Hormone dosage for this one. Hey, the guy looks great for his age, and has been obsessively keeping in shape since the ‘70s.
