Many have been wondering what is going on with Noah Hawley’s “Alien” series. It was given the green light three years ago, but there have been constant delays, mostly due to bad luck.
Speaking with The Wrap, writer-director Hawley says his “Alien” series will only be premiering in 2025:
The plan right now is to go back in January and be shooting in February, and looks like shoot until July or so, which puts the air date somewhere in the in the first half of ’25.
The series was supposed to begin filming in March of 2022, but production was delayed until 2023 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Production then officially began this past July only to be halted by the SAG-AFTRA strike.
Some of the British actors in the cast were able to shoot some of their scenes during the strike, but without lead Sydney Chandler, who is a SAG member. Here’s Hawley:
“I was able to complete filming most of the first hour. That said, I wasn’t able to film anything with my star. So I still have the bulk of the show to film, and we have seven more hours to shoot,” Hawley said. “I certainly would have loved to get the show in front of people as quickly as possible.”
The series, to stream on HULU, is a prequel and will be set 70 years before the events of Ridley Scott’s 1979 film “Alien.” It’s set to star Sydney Chandler, Alex Lawther, Essie Davis, Adarsh Gourav and Samuel Blenkin.
The ‘Alien’ saga, which began in 1979 with Ridley Scott's film, and Sigourney Weaver in the lead, has been done to death, but Hawley, the creator of FX’s “Fargo,” not to mention “Legion,” is well worth following.
