Cannes once again dominated the European Film Awards. It happens every year. The nominations are based on the votes of the 4,600 members of the European Film Academy.
Jonathan Glazer’s “The Zone of Interest” and Aki Kaurismäki’s “Fallen Leaves” led the pack with five nominations. Justine Triet’s “Anatomy of a Fall” was close behind with four nominations – film, director, screenwriter and actress.
Agnieszka Holland’s “Green Border” took three nominations – film, director and screenwriter. Matteo Garrone’s “Io Capitano” and Ilker Çatak‘s “The Teachers’ Lounge” each nabbed two nominations.
Glazer, Triet, Kaurismaki, Holland and Garrone were all five nominated for Best Director. Their respective films nominated for Best Film.
“Afire,” “Blackbird Blackbird Blackberry,” “How to Have Sex,” “La Chimera” and “The Promised Land” took one nomination each in major categories.
Sandra Hüller was actually nominated twice for best actress – for “Anatomy of a Fall” and “The Zone of Interest.” She’s having an incredible year. Maybe an Oscar nomination is also in order for her, most likely for ‘Anatomy.’
The winners will be revealed at the awards ceremony on December 9th in Berlin.
