Here’s an interesting detail from Variety’s piece on Netflix boss Scott Stuber. The streaming giant will produce Noah Baumbach’s next feature, which is being described as a “funny and emotional coming-of-age story about adults”.
If you remember, last year the New York Post had reported that Netflix greenlit a new movie starring Brad Pitt and Adam Sandler, to be directed by Baumbach. No further details were given on the upcoming film. I wonder if this is the film being described by Stuber.
Baumbach signed an exclusive multi-year deal to make movies for the streamer in January 2021, right after his “Marriage Story” was nominated for six Oscars, including Best Picture. Netflix produced Baumbach’s last three films; 2017’s “The Meyerowitz Stories,” 2019’s “Marriage Story” and 2022’s absurdist $120 million trifle “White Noise”
Baumbach is the writer-director behind the indie classics “The Squid and the Whale” and “Frances Ha.” Sandler previously teamed up with Baumbach on “The Meyerowitz Stories.” Pitt has never worked with either of them.
