Things are looking grimmer and grimmer by the day for “The Marvels.” Last week I had reported that, based on internal tracking, I was seeing a $45-$50M opening for the latest MCU installment.
Deadline is now reporting that presales for “The Marvels” are reportedly pacing behind that of “The Flash”, which ended up with a $55M 3-day opening and was, by all accounts, a box-office disaster for Warner Bros.
If “The Marvels” does indeed open in the $45-$50M range then it’ll be the worst opening weekend ever for the MCU — the current worst is 2021’s “Eternals” at $51M.
According to Deadline, the film's low box office numbers could be due to the strike that bars actors from promoting their films — it could partly be that, but one cannot dismiss “superhero fatigue” as another factor. “The Marvels,” starring Brie Larson, is being released this coming Friday, November 10th.
