Well, that didn’t take long. Less than three weeks since it got theatrically released, Eli Roth‘s “Thanksgiving” has already been greenlit for a sequel. A 2025 release date has been set up.
Sony’s TriStar Pictures and Roth’s film was produced on a scant budget of $15 million and has already grossed $30 million worldwide in its first two weeks of release.
“Thanksgiving” is Certified Fresh at 83% on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s being touted as the best reviewed film of Roth’s career. I much preferred 2002’s “Cabin Fever,” still his best work to date, but maybe that’s just me.
“Thanksgiving” was one of several fake movie trailers that went into the 2007 film “Grindhouse” by Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino. Roth has been developing the story into a movie for nearly three decades.
