Here’s one I’m really looking forward to. Steve McQueen’s “Blitz” is set to test screen next Wednesday in the West Coast. It completed production in April and McQueen’s been in post-production ever since.
With a resume that includes “Hunger,” “Lovers Rock” and “12 Years a Slave” (all excellent) it’s always exciting to find out what former-visual-artist-turned-director McQueen will do next.
McQueen’s latest is also the biggest film of his career. “Blitz” stars Saoirse Ronan and Harris Dickinson and is based on an original idea by McQueen. The film takes place during the German bombing campaign against the United Kingdom in 1940, with the events “seen through the eyes of the Londoners on the home front.”
“Blitz” will be released in 2024 and is being produced by Apple TV. During this year’s Cannes Film Festival, boss Thierry Fremaux spilled the beans about McQueen’s potentially showing up in year’s Cannes competition.
