In 2015, director Ryan Coogler injected some much-needed excitement into the “Rocky” franchise with the entertaining “Creed.” I really liked his brazenly exciting take on the boxing franchise, and it even garnered Sylvester Stallone an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
The ensuing sequel (“Creed II”), directed by Steven Caple Jr, felt like business as usual. “Creed III” was also more of the same, especially when it came to the familiarity of the story being told. At least that one had an energetic performance from Jonathan Majors as the villain.
Nevertheless, these films were moneymakers and now Producer Irwin Winkler has confirmed that a fourth one is officially in the works via MGM. Michael B Jordan will be back in the director’s chair for this one — I would have much preferred Coogler — and — more bad news— there is no indication that Sylvester Stallone will be involved, for now.
