It seems as though the Marvel Cinematic Universe is getting bad news on a near daily basis. The end is nigh and the warning signs are all over the place. It doesn’t even feel like “superhero fatigue” but more like total and utter sabotage on their part.
And yet, Marvel and Disney swear that everything is peachy, the ship isn’t sinking, we’re gonna be a-okay, they say. But the warning signs are there and it’s getting blatantly explicit by the day.
The latest ominous hint came today in the form of Destin Daniel Cretton exiting as director of “Avengers: Kang Dynasty.” You hear those cracks? That’s the dam breaking. Cretton claims he’s left the ’Kang Dynasty’ to concentrate on his ‘Shang-Chi’ sequel.
On Sunday, I had been told about a rumor concerning ‘Avengers: Kang Dynasty’ most likely getting scrapped by Disney/Marvel. I kind of forgot about it until this afternoon. Cretton leaving the project might be the hinting at that happening.
However, let’s wait and see. All I know is that these next few months there will most likely be some major changes occurring in the MCU.
On Monday, there was a report that Marvel was “moving away” from Jonathan Majors, who was supposed to play the central villain in the upcoming ‘Avengers’ movies. Cretton had originally been hired, in 2022, to direct the first one, titled ‘Kang Dynasty.’
Cretton is one of the many talented indie filmmakers that sold himself to the soul-sucking Marvel machine. His 2013 indie “Short Term 12” appeared on a lot of critics’ top 10 lists, but now he’s firmly planted as a Marvel guy with ‘Shang-Chi’ and his upcoming “Wonderman” series.
