Disney’s live-action remake of “Snow White” has been the victim of toxic word of mouth these last few months, and not a single frame of it has been even shown yet.
I’m hearing a teaser trailer is ready to go, and Disney, despite some hesitations, might stick it with showings of “Wish” next month. At this point, there is anticipation to see this, but as a hate-watch.
Some people are very angry about the drastic changes made to the original animated classic, and there have been many, including replacing the “seven dwarfs” with “magical creatures” and removing “Prince Charming” from the story.
The original 1937 film was directed by a few animators, one of whom was the late David Hand. Hand’s son, also named David, called this reimagining of his dad’s film a “disgrace,” and that Walt Disney and his dad would be “turning in their graves” if they were alive to see the new “Snow White.”
All of this backlash doesn’t surprise me at all. What actually surprises me is that it took this long for people to wake up and notice that Disney was destroying their animated classics in favor of live action remakes.
“Snow White” was written by none other than Greta Gerwig and is being directed by Marc Webb (“500 Days of Summer”). It stars Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot. It’s set to be released in theaters on March 22nd, 2024.
We’re already far beyond the point of no return; “Beauty and the Beast,” “Aladdin,” “The Little Mermaid,” “The Lion King” and “Dumbo” have all been massacred by the mouse house. Also, on the horizon is Sarah Polley’s “Bambi” and a slew of other butchered remakes.
