Longtime James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli has called the process of the next movie “a big road ahead” while speaking with The Guardian.
In fact, the process hasn’t even begun yet in “modernizing the franchise,” which means “Bond 26” ain’t coming until, at least, 2026. Broccoli mentions a timeline of 3-4 years. And, despite Aaron Taylor-Johnson having been heavily rumoured, no actor has been cast yet.
Our focus is making the feature films. When we get going on a Bond movie, it takes our full attention for three or four years, so that’s our focus.
What’s been more interesting for us isn’t necessarily which actor will don the 007 badge, but who will actually be directing the damn thing. The rumoured directors include Christopher Nolan, Sam Mendes, Cary Fukunaga and Martin Campbell.
Yes, Nolan has been heavily rumored, by a few outlets, numerous media have mentioned his name, but, as reported, a deal is far from being complete. It’s all talk at this point.
Obviously, the popular choice would be Nolan, it’d be very interesting to see what he does with this franchise, but it would require a major multi-year investment on his part. Maybe he could sneak in a new film before embarking on Bond. That’d be the ideal outcome.
In the meantime, we can at least scratch off Matthew Vaughn’s name from the rumored list. He definitely not going to be directing a Bond movie any time soon.
