This did not need to happen, but for those who believe a perfectly strong 2-hour movie should be split into a TV series then boy does AMC have a “TV event” for you.
Matt Johnson’s “Blackberry,” released theatrically this past spring, will be split into three 40-minute episodes, the network announced today.
Why can’t they just screen it as a movie instead? Beats me. Johnson’s film, about the rise and fall of the BlackBerry smartphone and the quirky Canadians who created it before Apple came to town, starred Jay Baruchel, Glenn Howerton and Johnson.
The film’s 124 minutes just zipped by. You don’t need to watch it in segments. Regardless, this isn’t a film that’s trying to break the mold or reinvent cinema. It’s just this well-told, and fascinating, true tale about company men who tried, very hard, to stay on-top amidst an ever-changing tech world.
