Amusing details have emerged from the set of “Killers of the Flower Moon.”
In a new piece in The Wall Street Journal, Martin Scorsese says Leonardo DiCaprio brought an “endless, endless, endless!” amount of improv to his lines, which prompted De Niro and Scorsese to roll their eyes.
Then Bob didn’t want to talk. Every now and then, Bob and I would look at each other and roll our eyes a little bit. And we’d tell him, ‘You don’t need that dialogue.’
Nothing harmful about what Scorsese says here. It’s just a very amusing anecdote about a legendary actor-director friendship (De Niro and Scorsese) that has spanned decades Not even Leo can crack the code.
While they have all worked togther separately, “Killers of the Flower Moon” marks the first time De Niro, DiCaprio and Scorsese all worked together in the same film.
DiCaprio told CBS Sunday Morning that De Niro and Scorsese “are so incredible together. Their shorthand, the way they communicate with each other, it's almost through sign language.”
He added that, “it's incredible to watch”, and when Scorsese was told what Leo said and asked what he has with Leo, the director said they have a “longhand.” Leo admitted “with me it's long discussions and grinding things up, lots of rehearsals.”
No offence to Dicaprio, who has made some great films with Scorsese (“The Wolf of Wall Street,” “The Departed,” but not much can match the cinematic, and historical, power of DeNiro/Scorsese.
