Speaking of Timothée Chalamet, the kid is obsessed with “Top Gun: Maverick”.
In his GQ interview, Chalamet admits he saw ‘Maverick’ a total of eight times last year, all while shooting “Dune: Part Two.” Timmy C believes the film is an all-timer.
Top Gun’ was just hugely inspiring to me last summer when we were making ‘Dune.” Some of the crew were kind of scoffing at going, but I just thought it was one of the greatest films I’ve ever seen.
Chalamet was so obsessed with the Tom Cruise film that, while shooting in Budapest, he managed to rent out a local theater to screen the film for his ‘Dune’ co-stars.
I was mixed on ‘Maverick’ after seeing it at Cannes, but, after a repeat watch, I‘ll admit that there’s something to be said about a movie that just wants to entertain you in such old-school fashion. However, it’s nowhere near one of the greatest films ever made. Not even in the top 1000.
The film is implausible and absolutely nobody seemed to care about that. People want to escape and this was massive pop entertainment with an incredibly pulse-pounding score and slick production values.
‘Maverick’ played almost like a period piece, a movie that felt like it was set in a bygone era of America, one where wholesomeness was present and political polarization was non-existent.
The reviews were also great. Critics ate up the nostalgia in this one. I heard a lot of “they don’t make ‘em like this anymore” comments from people. Whereas in 1987, they were saying “please, stop making ‘em like this.”
